Bifold Futon Frame
Imagine a piece of paper laid on top of a table. Fold it in half to make a chair with a backrest. It's also known as a “bi,” or two-fold because it has two sides or parts. To make a bed, the sides are laid horizontally next to one another when pulled out.
Two sides move on a lever mechanism and fold up to make a vertical back and a chair when lifted and pushed in.

The chair can be unlocked by the bifold futon frame. Face the futon from the middle. Grab the bars, the foundation, or handles on the seat section. Lift it up to release both sections. Next, pull in towards yourself and take a step back. Keep the section flat on your hands.
Remove any bedding from the hinges to close a bifold futon frame. Grab the bar and lift it towards the bottom. The bar should move into a closed position. Lock it if there is a latch.
Trifold Futon Frame
Imagine your sheet folded in a “Z” and placed on its side.
The three sections fold up like an accordion. The chair is formed by the slanting line, the Z-shaped backrest, and the Ottoman/leg rest.
A tripod has a hidden deck at the front.
To open the deck, raise the futon's seat. The mattress is similar to an accordion-folded and can be folded into three pieces to place on the lower portion. The legs can swing out of the seat when you lift it to pull the third deck.
Some models may require you to place the legs and mattress together. To create a flatbed, the backrest may need to be pulled down. Some models may have rungs that support the backrest.
To release the braces, raise your back and adjust the recline. These three futon frame parts can be adjusted to make a chair, recliner, or bed.
Fold a trifold by removing the mattress from the frame. Place the backrest in the correct position. Adjust the braces and the rungs to the correct height.
Some backrests come with a lock-and-slide mechanism. This allows you to engage the lock using a pull and push motion.
Next, place the deck underneath the primary seat. Then lift the seat up, so it slides into its proper position.
Fold the mattress so that the backrest and seat are covered.
Finally, place the extra mattress under the seats.
Some models don't allow the mattress to be removed.
The frame should be folded so that the chair looks like an accordion, with a vertical backrest position.
The Love Seat Futon Frame
Three sections fit into each other in the way that they may be pulled out to lie flat. They usually have two pieces of mattress. One side of the futon can be folded over to form a sofa.
The bottom of a loveseat may have a section that can be used as a footrest when the loveseat is in a reclined position.
They can be folded up and hidden if not in use. You can pull them out of the hidden niche and push the back to recline or flatten.
The love seat can be opened by pushing the button in the hidden niche. To form the futon's bottom half, it can be pulled out. The deck will unfold by lifting the chair. Take this deck apart and fix the legs.
Two mattresses are included in the loveseat. A third, smaller mattress is attached to the leg area. The loveseat will unfold by pressing the back.
This pull-down or push-up motion allows many models to unfold and fold.
A loveseat can be closed in the same way as a trifold futon frame. Simply push the backrest up until it locks in place.
Fix any broken rungs.
The small mattress should be removed from the footrest.
Fold the third deck under the seat. Before pushing the futon under the seat, make sure they have flexible legs.
